Welcome to the 2019 Columbia BiomedX Pitch Day

On Wednesday, May 1st, teams of Columbia University scientists, engineers, clinicians, and students, will pitch their envisioned technologies and business opportunities to a panel of judges and invited guests for potential commercialization support. This is the culminating event of a semester long technology commercialization "bootcamp" during which teams have been working to develop their cutting-edge biomedical technologies and research from the lab and into the market.

Each team will convey their findings on the following fundamental questions to a panel of judges and industry experts:

1.Does the envisioned product address a true unmet clinical need?

    2. Is there a viable business opportunity?

We hope you can join us for the final event of this exciting program. Food and refreshments will be served.

Brought to you by:

The Columbia Biomedical Technology Accelerator (formerly the Columbia-Coulter Translational Research Partnership) aims to catalyze the advancement of biomedical technologies by providing funding, education, resources and mentorship to teams of clinicians, engineers and scientists working to develop solutions to clinical unmet needs, with the ultimate goal of bringing innovative research out of the lab to benefit society.

Project support is expected to serve as a bridge to commercial investment, with awards granted to perform specific tasks needed to validate a commercial hypothesis (vs. a scientific hypothesis).

Columbia Biomedical Accelerator (BioMedX) Pitch Day

With $10M in funding from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), PowerBridgeNY’s mission is to turn cleantech innovations from the academic research labs of our six partner institutions into strong, cleantech businesses in New York State. We do this by offering teams up to $150K each to conduct 100 Customer Discovery interviews and develop a prototype or conduct in-field testing to move the technology closer to commercialization via a startup (preferable) or license. During the program, we host a series of events and monthly check-ins using the NSF I-Corps/Lean LaunchPad Methodology as well as subsidize the cost of necessary services, provide industry Mentors, and arrange pro bono office hours with experts in law, finance, grant writing, and more.

PowerBridgeNY is two separate proof-of-concept centers (POCC), both funded by NYSERDA, collaborating as one program. One POCC is led by Columbia University and includes Brookhaven National Laboratory, Cornell Tech, and Stony Brook University. The other POCC is led by the Tandon School of Engineering at New York University and includes the City University of New York.
